Human Interaction and Your Mental Health

By Eva, blog ambassador of Youthoughtism

What is human interaction?

Human Interaction means face-to-face social interaction with people. Spending time with friends, family, and even strangers also counts as human interaction.

Mental benefits

I think that spending time with people is a benefit for us. Human interaction benefits our mental health. It can lighten your mood and make you happier, as you communicate with others and discuss your favourite topic. Experts have proved that social interaction lowers rates of anxiety and depression, increases self-esteem, creates greater empathy, etc.

Health benefits

Also, human interaction is good for your brain health. It lowers your risk of dementia (Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning disturbing daily human life and activities).

No human interaction?

You might ask, what happens if I don’t have social interaction with others? As I have written in my last blog (Loneliness), less social interaction causes worse mental and physical health. So I think that even though probably you are shy or scared to talk to others, you should also try improving it as human interaction is noteworthy!

Online interaction

Online interaction with people you know or don’t know is still not a kind of human interaction as it is not face-to-face. I don’t recommend that. But of course, during the pandemic, we should stay home and only go out when necessary, so human interactions are limited, and online interactions are much safer.

Advice

How am I supposed to improve social interactions?

First, you can start having more relaxing communication with your family and friends, and don’t talk about your grades or whatever makes you feel bad. You might also want to pluck your courage and talk to people to make more friends!

Conclusion

Human interaction is one of the most necessary activities to do in daily life. It improves both mental and physical health. Don’t be afraid when you want to improve your social interaction! Just go on! Just always remember, YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
